HOW DOES PERCORTEN-V WORK?

CAUTION:
It is imperative to rehydrate any dog experiencing severe hypovolemia, dehydration, pre-renal azotemia, and inadequate tissue perfusion, also known as an “Addisonian crisis,” through intravenous fluid therapy using saline before initiating treatment with Percorten. Care should be taken to avoid accidental intravenous injection, as it may have adverse effects on the dog. Concurrent administration of potassium-sparing diuretics, such as spironolactone, may diminish the effectiveness of Percorten. When using Percorten, exercise caution in dogs with congestive heart disease, edema, severe renal disease, or primary hepatic failure. Desoxycorticosterone pivalate may lead to polyuria, polydipsia, increased blood volume, edema, and cardiac enlargement. Excessive weight gain could indicate fluid retention due to sodium retention. The safety of desoxycorticosterone pivalate has not been established in breeding, pregnant, and lactating dogs, as well as dogs under 6 months of age.
